Joel Grossman’s Bio

Joel’s experience bridges the domains of design, product development, marketing and technology. He has participated in the creation and commercialization of a wide range of products and services, including consumer packaged goods, healthcare products, business-to-business solutions, Internet services, and consumer electronics. He delivers insight on overall user experience, including use and intent patterns, usability, interaction, information architecture, information design and brand experience.

Joel has over fifteen years of experience designing solutions in the CPG, Retail, Education, Government, Insurance, Media, Not-for-Profit, B2B Services and Publishing industries. Prior to forming Pivotal Click, he built the Interactive Branding practice for Lipson Alport Glass & Associates, a nationally-recognized brand design & innovation agency. Joel has held senior positions with Playboy Enterprises and Encyclopedia Britannica, as well as heading up product development for Edventions, a start-up acquired by Edison Schools. Joel began his career as an independent information technology consultant, working on application development and networking projects in Chicago, Minneapolis and Tokyo, Japan. He holds a B.A. with Honors from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and a M.A. from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities.

Joel is a member of ACM SIGCHI, proudly serves as Chicago’s Local Ambassador for UXnet, a global organization for collaboration within the user experience community, and is a judge for both the International Academy of Digital Arts & Sciences’ Webby Awards and the Software and the Software & Information Industry Association’s Codie Awards.
